How Many More Independence Days? by Dr T
Again, my apologies to you and Dr. T. This should have been posted on July 4th. Sorry about the delay.

I'm taking the occasion of the birthday of our nation to bring some salient points home about America in the year 2010. I've said it many times and I dare to say it again,...we must know history, true history or our liberty will be lost.
On July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was adopted, so far I think our schools still manage to mention this, if only in passing. However, what isn't taught is the story of the sacrifice of the men who brought this mighty document to fruition. It took many years for the Declaration and for our Country's Constitution to become the law of the land. The founders suffered grave brutality and financial ruin and yet they never abandoned their goal of creating a society where people would be free to pursue their individual dreams and achievements. The following is their statement with respect to the importance they attached to this document:
"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor."
This was far more than flowery pen to paper sentiment, it was a pledge and if you were to take the time to review the history you will find revelations of the misery they endured. Some signers saw their property burned and destroyed, some became prisoners of war, many died penniless, yet they would not betray their sacred honor.
For this we owe them more than we could ever repay. And now more than two centuries after their great accomplishment, it seems history is repeating itself. Our current "body politic" is behaving much in the manner of King George. Have we come full circle? I would submit to you that we are very close to succumbing to the yoke of serfdom. Our governing body is moving toward a soft tyranny, using tricks, lies and disasters(some of their making) to try to convince us that free markets are evil and government control of our resources and our economy will bring us to Utopia.
Don't be conned. In the year and a half that Barack Obama has been in office not one decision has been made that benefits the people though countless promises have been made. Conversely, this one man wrecking ball has managed to water down the Constitiution at every turn by strong-arming Congress and all other entities in his path into submission. Under the guise of "reform" he has taken over our healthcare system, the banks and General Motors. He has caused the demise of millions of private sector jobs through the promise of ever expanding taxation and regulation. He has raided the coffers and put our children and grandchildren into debt all for the sake of power.
Don't let Independence Day 2010 be America's last...know your history and stand firm like our founders did. It's our turn to pledge "our sacred honor."
