A HOMERUN by Dr. T

Mitt Romney hit a grand slam against Barack Obama in this first Presidential debate. Mitt came out of the gate strong and well prepared. A very special attribute that Romney possesses is that he can broadside you in an ever so "gentlemanly" way. What was also telling about this debate was that the President was not prepared for the onslaught he received. This ironically was in part because he's never been strongly challenged. The media has coddled him since his first campaign and all through his four years as President. All the coddling, protections and softball questions in the past left him unprepared for a real fight. What is also important to note is that the President is not hands on in his day to day duties. He has been mostly absent for foreign policy briefings preferring to be briefed through his IPOD. Clearly he wanted his preparation for this debate to be equally brief. A narcissist is always overconfident. I'm a student of body language and much was revealed when watching both men in action. Governor Romney came off confident and assertive and had no trouble looking the President in the eye when challenging him on an issue. The President on the other hand did not look at Romney but rather looked down at the podium or straight ahead. Mitt did what I hoped he would do...that is, he kept talking and would not allow Jim Lehrer to cut him off. In fact, many times throughout the debate Lehrer was fairly ineffective. The President pulled out all the old talking points..."When I came into ofice we were faced with the biggest recession since the great depression" blah, blah, blah. No new ideas - just same old, same old. In addition, Romney was able to slam him on Solyndra, the 716 billion dollar cuts to medicare, and the 23 million people out of work. Facts are facts; in short, Mitt had only to recite Obama's failed policies. This is just the first debate, my hope is that Mitt's momentum increases. There is much more ammunition that should be in Romney's arsenal. The recent blunder in the Middle East was not touched, Fast & Furious was not touched. These are serious issues that highlight an inept and deceptive Presidency and they must be brought to the fore. Hopefully, Romney knows he has one shot so every time he's at bat he has to hit it out of the park.
