LANDSLIDE!! by Dr.T
Last night was a great night in the "Dr. T" household. After nearly two years of misery under Barack Obama and his "progressive/socialist/authoritarian" Congress, I must admit the scent of success never smelled sweeter.
I like my humble pie served COLD and our President swallowed a hearty piece of it last night with a second helping at his news conference today. The funny thing is, he still doesn't seem to get it. Last night's Republican landslide was clearly a repudiation of the Obama agenda. Some of us knew better than to vote for Obama in the first place, our instincts told us that something was not quite right. But the majority was taken in by his eloquent promises of "change". However, colossal bailouts, corporate takeovers, 9.6% unemployment and a 12 trillion dollar deficit was not the change the American people envisioned.
Last night was the biggest party takeover since 1932, flipping the House of Representatives "red" by a huge margin as well as adding 6 Senate seats which almost equally splits that chamber. In addition the GOP gained 10 governorships which will greatly change the landscape for the 2012 Presidential election.
I confess that I am gleeful at the thought that Nancy Pelosi has been toppled from her pedestal and that her legacy will be that of the nation's "worst Speaker". Soon her piercing eyes and plastic smile will fade away. So for a little while I will allow myself this revelry though I know too well that there is much work to be done. The tea party proved itself to be a formidable force and now the newly elected must navigate their own party establishment as well as the opposition party. Speaker- elect Boehner must bring all parties to the table in an effort to reign in an expansive and overreaching Federal Government. The people have awakened from their "apathetic sleep"....the new guard is on probation...we're watching you.
