They Just Don't Get it by Dr T
The Republicans should unanimously vote this bill down and after January 1st when they take over the House, they can deal with extending the Bush tax cuts. In this way no more harm is done by adding more to the debt. The folks have made their wishes for no more earmarks quite clear and yet the Democrats are tone deaf. As far as extending unemployment compensation, this too should only pass if it can be funded. Three years is a long time to collect unemployment and while I have no doubt that there are scarce jobs out there(thanks to punitive regulations and uncertainty from govt.)and folks need help, a hand-out is defeatist in that it provides no incentive to seek employment. There should at least be a caveat that recipients provide services ie. helping with infrastructure, tutoring, highway clean ups etc. in order to receive the benefit. This would be a win/win in that folks could pay their bills while providing a valuable service. Yet this is too much thinking for our legislators, they are content to spend taxpayer dollars without accountability.
The bottom line is that decades of reckless spending have now put the country on the verge of collapse...the new guard has much work to do.
