An August For Our Times by Dr. T

Ah, the dog days of summer...contentious town halls...first amendment suppression...politician tax evasion...and congressional praise for Fidel Castro. And I was just hoping for a cool lemonade on the porch.

August 2009 has certainly been a recess our politicans will not soon forget. With the threat of HR3200 becoming law, the citizens have been making their voices heard in town halls across the country. They have also been burning up the phone lines and sending letters and e-mails to their representatives. The bottom line is ...this is a bad bill. Each day more details of the monstrous 1500 page bill are revealed. This bill goes beyond healthcare reform, for hidden in the almost undiscernible verbiage are unparalleled privacy grabs. Did you know that if this bill passes in its current form, your tax records will be made available to your state health commissioner and ultimately to the federal commissioner of health? That your bank account could be accessed? Keep the pressure on, this bill must be killed.

In addition we now have another bill in the works that if passed, would give the President the power to shut down the internet. Mind you, only in the case of a security emergency...trouble is the bill is so broad it does not define what constitutes a "security emergency". The President isn't fond of discontent, for him a security emergency could well be citizens exercising their first amendment right to free speech. If this bill passes make no mistake, conservative talk radio will be next on the hit list. The mainstream networks and the press have already been co-opted by the administration. Commercials against "Obamacare" have not been run. Once the internet and talk radio are silenced we will have a state run media. Are you scared yet?

I heard parts of a town hall where Congresswoman Diane Watson was praising Fidel Castro and his health care program. So lets see, all the refugees who for decades have periled themselves to get to our shores to escape a demonic regime have been misguided? Perhaps they should have talked with Ms. Watson first.

And finally good ole Charlie Rangel (D,NY), head of the Ways and Means Committee, has forgotten to declare a couple of million dollars in income. Another congressional tax cheat just doing what tax cheats do. Ah...the dog days of summer.

The Sleeping Giant by Dr. T

I've really been enjoying watching the town halls that have taken place this month. Our elected officials went home to their constituents and they have been getting an earful. As one young woman said at Senator Spector's meeting..."You've awakened a sleeping giant." The silent majority is silent no more. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you poke a person in the eye often enough, they eventually will poke you back. This president was swept into office because some folks were angry over the bad economy and angry over the Iraq war. Barack Obama campaigned on hope and change and because the folks were angry, they signed on. Now many of the folks are having voter's remorse. Instead of hope and change we're getting Chicago strong arm politics, 44 czars and no transparency.

The President and the Congress expected to push universal healthcare through in the same way they pushed the stimulus through. Fortunately for the citizens, the House bill got out before the recess so the folks had a chance to see what the Congress was plotting. Then all hell broke loose. Citizens began pushing back, and the poor politicians have been forced to actually face them. The bottom line is this:
The folks don't want socialism, they don't want unbridled federal power. The hard working, by-the-book citizens are tired of the propaganda they are being fed. They are tired of being told that they, as productive citizens, must bear the burden of the unproductive citizens. They are tired are being told that they are responsible for the bad decisions that others make. We are not a collective...we are a free nation. Everyone here is free to pursue their own talents and make their own prosperity. Generations ago, it was not necessary to explain this concept...people on the whole took responsibilty for their actions. It is only since we took on the concept of "victimhood"(a liberal invention) that our individual rights have been jeopardized for the sake of non-contributors.

We don't need universal healthcare. Those who are not covered, and I'm not counting the illegals, have options. Make no mistake this is one thing and one thing only...a power grab.

Not every post needs a title...

First off, kudos to Dr. T for keeping our little endeavor alive. I am nothing if not grateful to the Doc. Also, I would be delinquent as a fellow writer to not post an occasional article. While priorities are priorities, and life most certainly gets in the way sometimes those do not encompass the entire story. Discouragement has reined for a while in the small but normally more energetic daedalus compound. The quick rise but hopefully prostrate administration currently in power has left what can best be described as a bad taste in one's mouth. But, if my absence has worried my readers, an article from today's Townhall.com may give you enrichment.

Are the Best of Times Past? by Dr. T

Are the best of times past us, are the good times really over for good? I sure hope not, but these days I'm not very optimistic. Each day I see the fabric of America unravelling. This President who promised to be the great uniter has turned out to be the great divider. His transparency is non-existant and his advisors are running amok. The healthcare debate has brought tensions to an all time high. After realizing that the stimulus has been a bust, that unemployment is close to double digits and that the government is controlling car companies and banks, the citizens are now being told that healthcare reform must be passed through "very quickly". The stimulus bill, a record 827 billion of our taxpayer dollars was passed without being read. The bill is loaded with "payback dollars" to heavy contributors to the ruling party and to special interest lobbyists. Just the kind of Washington politics that Obama claimed he would reform. As it turns out, this administration is the poster child for "Chicago strong arm politics".

The citizens are reading the proposed healthcare bill and they don't like what they see. They are making their voices heard and are being maligned for it. Speaker Pelosi has likened them to Nazis, Harry Reid calls them the "fringe" and others have referred to the protesters as "mobs" sent out by the Republican Party. I've seen footage of heated town hall meetings, and frankly the citizens have every right to be angry. If you poke someone in the eye long enough, they are going to poke you back. Funny, I don't recall these Congressmen and women having a problem when protesters of the Iraq war painted a mustache on pictures of President Bush and proclaimed him a Nazi. Where was the outrage then? Where was the outrage when Cindy Sheehan set up residence across from President Bush's home in Crawford? She was exercising her first amendment right to assemble as I recall...yet these hypocrites have a problem when taxpayers tell them to keep their hands off our healthcare.

Citizens are actually being urged by the White House to inform on fellow citizens who have expressed discontent with Obamacare. What's next, an armband with a number?
Unbelieveable!
