Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you and yours. It is to be a day of peace, a day of family. We here at MC hope that you can spend it with yours. And we write today to remind our readers to think and pray for those service members overseas who cannot be with their families this Christmas season. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families. If one thing the Prince of Peace's birth reminds us to do this December is to pray and fight for Peace.

Pax vobiscum

God Bless Us, Everyone by Dr. T

The close of 2008 is at hand and it's been a bumpy ride. But hang on to your hats folks, cause the ride is far from over. The primaries, the debates, the conventions, went on ad nauseum and finally the election took place. The "new hope" for America was elected and on January 20th, Barack Hussein Obama will become our 44th president. I predict that under his "reign" and yes, it will be a "reign", America as we know it will disappear. The economic downturn has cleared the field for the government to nationalize industry. America was founded on individualism and capitalism, but now those concepts will be discarded as the "progressives"(just another word for liberals) take over and turn the country socialist. The Democratic Party revels in misery, the worse the better. They preach fear in order to ensnare the population. Fear breeds dependence. If enough of the electorate are fearful, they will look to the government to save them...thus creating a guaranteed voting block. Cynical you say? I say no, just connect the dots. Many of the problems we are facing today could have been avoided. Case in point - the so called "oil crisis". I've said it before and I'll continue to say it, we have enough crude within our own borders to sustain us for 200 years. Yet the government will not allow us to drill. They are content to have us suffer $4.00 a gallon gasoline in order to force us to conserve. Even now that prices have rolled back, the president-elect promises to raise gas taxes. This inflation is a deliberate attempt to wean us off fossil fuel. In so doing a little of my liberty is lost. The president-elect promises universal health care, the masses are elated...they shouldn't be. You'll be told when to see a doctor and to whom you must go...a little of my liberty is lost. Workers will be forced to openly vote for or against joining a union...privacy gone...a little bit of liberty lost. Obama is a socialist but he is not a fool. Corporations will be more heavily taxed which will force lay offs. Taxes will rise to pay for more entitlement programs. The more people there are on the dole the more votes guaranteed. He will make these changes incrementally, under the guise of "fairness" and spreading the wealth.

Welcome to America 2009...God Bless Us, everyone.

Something else to think about...

Lately, our lives and collective ears have been clogged up with news of a tragically, broken economy and a surprisingly, understandable, "Second-City", political scandal (Does anyone notice that Republican state power bases are never called, "machines"). But, like MC spoke of a few weeks ago with off-shore drilling, the media has been mum on the incoming president's plan for healthcare. And here are our thoughts. The federal government wants to bring as many people under its umbrella, an enormous umbrella, and in turn raise taxes to pay for a behemoth of a program. For with a direct pay for service, single payer system, providers charge for the amount of patients seen. Doctors are accustomed to making a good living. Why else would they spend so long in school? Yes, that was slightly cynical, but rings of truth. Add a conveyor belt-type system with the idea that expensive/advanced and complex procedures would allow providers to charge the government more for treatment on a regular basis, and you would have a nightmare of a future that screams of back-alley, black-market treatments. Goodbye choice, hello European healthcare. This issue is going to take creative, free-market solutions. MC advises all to keep an eye on Governor Bobby Jindal's burgeoning plan for the state of Louisiana. His attempt to redefine the state's Medicaid program could either show that freer markets work or could be ignored by Obama's less than transparent new White House, primed to expand our federal system beyond what the normal citizen could possibly imagine.

Where are we going and why are we in this hand basket?

'Tis the season for uber-political correctness to rear its ugly head, again. If anyone had any misgivings about the cultural war over the CHRISTMAS season being over. Please look at this ridiculous website compliments of Yahoo. I wonder how many cultures and holidays we will have to be aware of next year? Perhaps the native islanders of Sao Tome' have their own festivities that happen to occur some time near the latter half of our calendar. Or, maybe I can create my own holiday and moan and complain until Sparky the Dog Day is honored throughout the U.S. with the same cultural weight as...Winter Solstice?!

Cornucopia of Thoughts...

Has anyone noticed that with a price of a barrel of oil now dropping to a three and half year low, the argument for off shore drilling has been unheard for over a month. Even the Republicans and conservative pundits have been surprisingly silent. If ever there was a time for furthering the argument would it not be now. It would be easy to frame the argument around the public's positive reaction to below $2 gasoline. Imagine the speculators reaction to dozens and dozens of contracts being awarded to drilling companies for say the outer, Outer Banks, or say near the Bermuda Triangle, hmmm?

The economy is officially, as of yesterday, in a recession. It actually, according to experts, started last December. Perhaps if we had known then what we know now we would not have bought all those ridiculously priced presents. But...imagine how bad the recession would be now if we curbed our spending then...my head hurts.

With the aforementioned recession, it seems utterly genius of the Governor of NJ to raise tolls as of Dec. 1 on its highways. But, you say it is only $0.25 at the tolls of the A.C. Expressway exits. Well think of it this way. If a worker takes the same exit to work and home every day, then that is $0.50 each day. Simple arithmetic: $2.50 each week or $130.00 a year. And do not even bring up the Expressway main toll being raised a whole $1.00, or $520.00 a year. Could you imagine if the Governor in his unending wisdom tried to sell toll raising by calling it what it actually is...a backdoor tax on NJ's workers. Thanks Dems, does anyone remember Brett Schundler the '05 gubernatorial candidate from the Republican Party who campaigned on the idea of eliminating the tolls on NJ's highways?

Lastly, hope that all gave appropriate thanks this weekend for friends and family...this and every weekend hopefully.

Black Friday Turns Barbaric by Dr. T

The tragedy that took place on "Black Friday" at the Wal-Mart in Valley Stream, NY was destined to happen. The culture of consumerism has been consuming us for decades and it has culminated in a despicable act of crowd-mentality barbarism. A young man's life was snatched away under the feet of a throng of people hell bent on purchasing flat screens, laptops and violent video games. How pathetically low we have sunk! In fact, according to news reports, some shoppers actually complained when the store closed because of the melee. How inconvenient of this man to get in their way and then to lay dying, clearly infringing on their purchasing rights.

All around me I see example after example of the evaporation of our humanity. Just a few months ago a pedestrian was hit by a car and folks went about their business as he lay helpless in the street. At the rate we are going, we won't be done in by enemies outside our borders, we will be the architects of our own demise if we don't wake up.
